Occupied Denmark 1943: In a remote fishing village, fifteen year-old Jens Neilson, struggles to break free from his over protective family. His humiliation increases when friends, Karen and Lars, reject his offers to help distributethe newsletters for the Underground, Holger Danske.
Determined to gain Karen’s respect, Jens accepts his Grandfather’s challenge to build a replica of a Faering, a four-oared Viking fishing boat. While looking for materials, Jens finds a downed RAF air gunner in an abandoned boatshed. Instantly Jens is hurled into a life of increasing danger with the Resistance, when he and his Grandfather help the man to escape. Alone, Jens cares for his injured grandfather, saves Karen from Lars’ treachery and assists his father hide the secret plans for a new ship’s propeller. Without warning, the Germans arrest Danish Jews for relocation in Germany and Karen and her brothers are now on
the run. Helpless, Jens must watch his father’s execution for sabotage.
Can Jens believe Lars’ warning that the Germans are on their way to arrest him and search for the plans? Time has run out for the grieving Jens Neilson. The Faering must prove seaworthy enough to take them to Sweden, if Jens is to save Karen and his father’s plans from discovery.
